Missoula County opposes Senate Bill 24 - Revise zoning laws for sand and gravel operations, scheduled for executive action by the Senate Local Government Committee this week. SB 24 allows extractive industries to "lock up" land and prevent zoning by simply submitting an application (regardless of whether the application is incomplete or inaccurate) for open cut mining. SB 24 gives industry dominance over housing and solves a less than significant problem found only in very limited situations. Please oppose SB 24.
Respectfully,
Patrick O'Herren, Missoula County Chief Planning Officer
